Mein alter Jugendstil Schreibtisch ist leider kaputt gegangen und musste repariert werden. In dem Zusammenhang wurden gleich noch ein paar Macken wieder ausgebessert. As furniture conservators/restorers of the Zentrale Restaurierungswerkstatt Berlin, we have helped numerous pieces of furniture and antiques to regain their former splendor. With our enthusiasm for working with cultural assets, wooden objects, and furniture, we do everything we can to bring back the radiance of such an object by employing restorative and conservation measures.
We comply with the Charter of Venice, the central and internationally recognized guideline for preserving historical monuments. We are also a member of the Association of Restorers (VDR).

mostly old furniture made of wood, including tables, chairs, drawers, chests, cabinets, farmhouse cabinets, pieces of furniture from different periods such as the Biedermeier period or other period furniture

Furniture conservation at the ZRW Berlin
As certified restorers with a passion for our profession, no challenge is too great for us. Thanks to our many years of experience, we are well-versed in the thoughtful, expert handling of antiques, furniture, and objects of all kinds. We use our extensive knowledge of materials, original formulations, manufacturing, and historical construction methods to achieve the best possible result in each case. For example, we repair damage to veneers, work on any solid wood, refurbish carvings, make additions to missing parts, coat surfaces with shellac or polish them manually to a high gloss finish using traditional methods and formulations.

Restoration woodwork of ZRW Berlin
To refurbish your piece of furniture true to its original condition, we make use of a wide range of restorative woodwork:
- clean the furniture or wooden object
- check the stability of the construction and, if necessary, fix loose parts,
- carry out the woodwork on solid or veneered wood, for example, gluing, adding wood or veneer parts or chipping out cracks,
- perform inlay and marquetry work,
- make drawers and other movable constructions operable,
- restore the ability to close and lock chests, cabinets, doors, and drawers,
- reconstruct missing parts and sections.
We determine the appropriate materials and analyze binders and pigments. Our collaboration with other workshops ensures a service-oriented approach, enabling you to receive a restoration from a single source.

Restoration surface work
For your favorite furniture to shine in its original state, we carry out a wide variety of surface work. Taking into account the respective materials and required techniques, we will, within the framework of the surface treatment of old furniture, for example
- clean the wooden object or furniture
- expose original surfaces of the furniture,
- separate coatings,
- we will carry out work on the mounts, for example, glue or strengthen mounts and complete and reconstruct painted surfaces,
- stripping or lye removal,
- sanding
- varnish,
- polish furniture with wax, oil, or shellac polish (according to historical methods),

Restorative metalwork
Furniture made of wood such as chests, secretaries, or cabinets often features metal knobs, locks, metal inlays, fittings, and other metallic elements - whether for functional or aesthetic reasons. With our many years of experience in restoration and conservation, we dedicate ourselves professionally to removing signs of wear+tear. In the course of restorative metalwork, we will, for example.
