A milestone in German furniture design
Gelenka Armchair (1954)
The innovative armchair from the Gelenka furniture factory, designed by Ernst Breitenborn, revolutionized postwar seating design. The patented suspension system, featuring interlaced wooden slats in the seat and backrest, offers exceptional seating comfort thanks to its natural flexibility. The elegant design, crafted from stained beech with curved armrests, combines functionality with timeless aesthetics.
Dimensions: H 82 cm x W 61 cm x D 43 cm, seat 44 x 53 cm
The restoration work included gentle surface cleaning and the repair of the characteristic suspension system. In the process, three small wooden blocks were re-wired, selective wood reinforcements were made, and the original lacquer finish was carefully restored. These measures ensure the authenticity of this significant design classic from the 1950s.
